Services Available on UIDAI Portal

1. Essential "Get Aadhaar" Services

2. Update and Correction Services

• Document Update: Keep your ID current by re-verifying your Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents.
• Address Update: Change your residential address online (requires a valid address proof or a validation letter).
• Demographic & Biometric Updates: Visit a center to update your name, gender, date of birth, mobile number, email, or biometrics (photo, fingerprints, and iris).
• Update History: View a record of all the changes you have made to your Aadhaar details over time.

3. Security and Privacy Services

• Lock/Unlock Biometrics: Digitally "freeze" your fingerprints and iris scans to prevent unauthorized use; you can unlock them only when needed.
• Aadhaar Lock/Unlock: A higher level of security where the Aadhaar number itself is locked, and only a Virtual ID (VID) can be used for authentication.
• VID Generator: Create a temporary 16-digit number to share with agencies instead of your actual Aadhaar number.
• Authentication History: View the last 50 instances of when and where your Aadhaar was used for verification in the past six months.

4. Verification and Linking

• Verify Aadhaar Number: Check if an Aadhaar number is active and valid.
• Verify Email/Mobile Number: Confirm if your contact details are correctly linked to your Aadhaar records.
• Bank Seeding Status: Check if your Aadhaar is linked to your bank account for receiving government subsidies (Direct Benefit Transfer).
• Offline e-KYC: Download a secure, digitally signed XML file for offline identity verification without sharing your Aadhaar number.

5. Mobile and SMS Services

• mAadhaar App: An all-in-one mobile app to carry your digital ID, generate TOTP (Time-based OTP), and access all online services on the go.
• Aadhaar Services on SMS: Access basic services like locking/unlocking or generating a VID by sending an SMS to 1947 (useful for those without smartphones).

Download Aadhaar (e-Aadhaar)

• Step 1: Visit the myAadhaar portal and click on Download Aadhaar.
  
• Step 2: Select your identification type (Aadhaar Number, Enrolment ID, or Virtual ID) and enter the details along with the Captcha.
  
• Step 3: Click Send OTP, enter the code received on your mobile, and click Verify & Download.

Note: The PDF is password-protected. The password is the first four letters of your name in CAPITAL letters followed by your Year of Birth (e.g., ANIT1995).

Check Enrolment or Update Status

• Step 1: Go to the portal and select Check Enrolment & Update Status.
  
• Step 2: Enter your 28-digit Enrolment ID (EID) found on your acknowledgement slip (14-digit number + 14-digit date/time).
  
• Step 3: Enter the Captcha and click Submit to see if your Aadhaar is generated or the update is processed.

Document Update

• Step 1: Login to myAadhaar with your Aadhaar number and OTP.
• Step 2: Choose the Document Update service. You will see your current identity and address details.
• Step 3: Upload a colored scan of your Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) and submit. (This is currently free online until June 14, 2026).

Verify Mobile Number/Email

• Step 1: On the UIDAI homepage, navigate to Aadhaar Services and click Verify Email/Mobile Number.
  
• Step 2: Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the mobile number or email you wish to verify.
  
• Step 3: Enter the Captcha and click Send OTP. If it matches UIDAI records, you will receive a confirmation message.

Retrieve Your Aadhaar Number or EID

• Step 1: Select Retrieve EID/UID from the portal.
  
• Step 2: Choose whether you want to find your Aadhaar No (UID) or Enrolment ID (EID).
  
• Step 3: Enter your full name and registered mobile/email. Enter OTP to receive your number via SMS.

Generate Virtual ID (VID)

• Step 1: Log in to the myAadhaar portal or use the VID Generator link under Aadhaar Services.
  
• Step 2: Select Generate VID and enter your Aadhaar number and Captcha.
  
• Step 3: After OTP verification, your 16-digit VID will be sent to your registered mobile number.

Order Aadhaar PVC Card

• Step 1: Select Order Aadhaar PVC Card on the portal.
  
• Step 2: Login with your Aadhaar number. (If your mobile isn't registered, check the box "My mobile number is not registered" to use an alternate number).
  
• Step 3: Preview your details (for registered users) and click Make Payment. Your card will be delivered via Speed Post.

Locate a Nearby Enrolment Center

• Step 1: Click on Locate an Enrolment Center under the "Get Aadhaar" section.
  
• Step 2: Choose to search by State, PIN Code, or Search Box.
• Step 3: Enter your details (like PIN code 110001) and Captcha to see a list of authorized permanent centers nearby.

New Aadhaar App

In 2025, UIDAI introduced a New Aadhaar App (different from the traditional mAadhaar app). This app serves more as a "Digital Identity Wallet" designed for quick, face-to-face verification at places like airports, hotels, and banks.

Here are the most important features of this new app that go beyond the basic functions:

1. Face Authentication (FaceRD Integration)

Unlike the old system that relied heavily on OTPs or fingerprints, this app uses your phone’s camera for Face ID. It matches your live face against the photo in the UIDAI database.

2. Multi-Profile Family Management

While previous versions were limited, the new app allows you to carry up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single smartphone.

3. Selective Data Sharing (Privacy Pro)

When you show your ID at a hotel or shop, you often don't want them to see your date of birth or full address. This app allows you to "mask" certain details.

4. Interactive QR Code Verification

The app generates a secure, digitally signed QR code. A shopkeeper or officer can scan your phone screen to verify you without needing an internet connection.

5. In-App Mobile Number Update

A massive "quality-of-life" upgrade rolled out recently allows users to update their linked mobile number directly through the app (subject to face authentication).

6. Time-based OTP (TOTP)

If you are in a "dark zone" where you aren't receiving SMS OTPs, the app generates a TOTP—a 6-digit code that changes every 30 seconds.

FAQ's

1. What is the "Free Document Update" deadline in 2026?

UIDAI has extended the deadline to update your Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) for free until June 14, 2026. This applies to anyone whose Aadhaar was issued more than 10 years ago and hasn't been updated since. After this date, a fee will be charged even for online updates.

2. Can I update my mobile number using the New Aadhaar App?

Yes. As of January 2026, the new Aadhaar mobile app allows you to update your mobile number and email ID directly from your smartphone using secure Face Authentication. This eliminates the need to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra for these specific changes, provided your phone meets the technical requirements (FaceRD).

3. What is the updated fee for an Aadhaar PVC Card?

Starting January 1, 2026, the fee for ordering a weather-proof Aadhaar PVC card has been revised to ₹75 (up from ₹50). This fee is inclusive of GST and delivery via Speed Post to your registered address.

4. Is "Face Authentication" now a legally recognized method?

Yes. Under the updated Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) rules in 2026, Face Authentication has been granted full legal recognition. It is now considered a valid, secure, and "touchless" way to verify your identity for services like hotel check-ins, airport entry, and banking.

5. My PAN is not linked to Aadhaar—is it too late?

The final deadline was December 31, 2025. If you did not link them, your PAN became inoperative on January 1, 2026. You can still link them now by paying a penalty fee on the Income Tax portal, but your PAN will remain inactive until the process is completed, which may affect your banking transactions.

6. Why does the new 2026 Aadhaar PVC card look different?

UIDAI has refreshed the design of the Aadhaar PVC card for 2026 to enhance security. The most notable change is the discontinuation of the hologram, which has been replaced by more advanced, tamper-proof digital security features and a high-resolution secure QR code for offline verification.
